Awakening

spring

in Vassivière

The silence of winter gives way to the awakening of nature. The shores of the lake are gradually transformed into a living canvas of color. The shimmering reflections of the first rays of sunlight dance on the surface of the water, buds gently burst forth with the promise of greenery and shy flowers emerge along the banks. The lapping of the water, the quivering of the sails during the regattas every weekend, blend harmoniously with the melodious song of the birds. The shores come alive again, restaurants reopen, activities resume their rhythm… Little by little, the lake embraces a new élan. Each season brings its own unique atmosphere, so special to Vassivière!

Stimulate your imagination!

It’s a timeless stroll where the centuries intertwine. Granite can be seen in old stone or contemporary architecture, while land-art works stand side by side with century-old trees… Whatever the season, the magic happens! Research, experimentation, production and dissemination of contemporary art: such is the objective of CIAPV, so well known for its remarkable contemporary architecture designed by Aldo Rossi and Xavier Fabre. This winter, discover Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s “Terres résonantes” exhibition, sediments of stories from this territory beyond your perceptions!

Along

the water

When the sun is out, a beautiful spring day is more than worth a summer day.

As a family, book your licence-free terrace boat at Alain Nature Bateaux for a trip, or for a picnic on the water.
Test the 2024 novelty with Elek Trop Choc, which offers 100% electric nautical equipment rental, including a Vassivière exclusive, the Manta 5 (bike-foil) to combine gliding, flying over the waves and pedaling!

More simply, rent a canoe from the beach of Auphelle (Information: Tourist Office: 05 55 69 76 70) or go for a tour of the Snake Island in a pedal boat.

The bravest may try a few strokes in invigorating water. Please note that the beaches will only be supervised in July and August.

A good meal?

Head for the villages that reflect the soul of this country. More than just restaurants, you’ll discover real places to live. There’s no great gastronomy here, just small tables where the food is simple, good and healthy. Here are a few 100% local addresses open all year round!

Stopover 110

Who doesn’t know l’Escale à Auphelle, facing the lake! This emblematic establishment has existed since the creation of Lac de Vassivière. Back then, it was the canteen for those who helped build the dam. Over the years, l’Escale has become a brasserie where you can enjoy a meal, an ice cream or a waffle on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the lake, or go pedal-boating around the Île aux Serpents. In March 2024, L’Escale changed its name to L’Escale 110. A family cradle for Anne Laure, a love at first sight for Vincent, both in love with the Limousin region, they set their sights on L’Escale for a new life project with their two daughters, Manon and Jade. A new setting, a new menu developed with local partners, but also a new welcome. Anne Laure and Vincent want L’Escale 110 to be a warm and inviting place to enjoy a quick meal or a “quiet time to chill”, a drink or a family or business event, as well as a lively place to play a game or enjoy a concert…
