Pauline Julier,

is an artist and filmmaker (France, Switzerland) who explores the links between human beings and their environment through narratives, rituals, knowledge and images. Her films and installations are composed of elements of diverse origins (documentary, theoretical, fictional) to convey the complexity of our relationships with the world. Her films and installations have been shown in numerous art centers, institutions and international festivals (Centre Pompidou, Paris, Loop, Barcelona, Visions du Réel, Nyon, Tokyo Wonder Site, etc.). She has twice received the Swiss Art Award (2010, 2021) and the support of the French Ministry of Culture’s “Mondes Nouveaux” project in 2022. In 2024, she had a major solo exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus (Switzerland), A Single Universe. She is currently working on her first feature film.

The exhibition

For this major new exhibition, Pauline Julier creates a series of atmospheric spaces bathed in red, propelling us from the blazing skies of mega-fires to the incandescent surface of the sun, from the ground of Mars to the skies of our ideas. Our imaginations of the red planet, long a place of speculation and projection, have given way to real possibilities for resource extraction and colonization. Presenting new and recent works in video, installation, ceramics and glass, Where the Sky Begins plunges us into the depths of space to change our perspective on the world beneath our feet.
