Held every year (or every two years) since 2006, the event attracts between 4,000 and 6,000 visitors over the course of a weekend, with a market-forum featuring some 80 exhibitors (Simples union producers from all regions, associations, schools, professional training centers, specialized media and various organizations dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants).gions, associations, schools, vocational training centers, specialized media and various organizations dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants). The Fête des Simples will be touring in 2024 on 3 dates, in Pays-de-Loire, Centre Val de Loire & Nouvelle Aquitaine. On October 4, 5 and 6, producers of aromatic and medicinal plants (PPAM) will set up shop in the heart of the lake on the emblematicÎle de Vassivière. The festival is organized in conjunction with the Limousin Massif, which organizes the “Summer of Plants” every summer. They can be eaten, cured and perfumed. Plants have a thousand virtues!

Where does water come from?

This year’s theme is water. Water is undoubtedly the primary element linking the three regions where this festival will take place, through the hydrographic network of the Loire watershed. Against a global backdrop of climate change and tense usage patterns, water management is an issue of particular concern to plant growers. The question of water and plants will therefore be explored through a program of conferences, in order to share observations, visions, experiences and also collective practices in the presence of researchers, experts, elected representatives and artists, with the aim of sharing these subjects with the general public.

The Syndicat des Simples

Founded in 1982 in the Cévennes region of France, the Syndicat des Simples brings together nearly 1,000 small-scale growers who produce, harvest and process medicinal plants of the highest organic and ethical quality, mainly through short distribution channels . Nearly 200 of them follow rigorous, innovative and original specifications, approved in 1988 by the French Ministry of Agriculture: respect and protection of wild resources2, environmentally-friendly cultivation practices, non-polluting and low in non-renewable energy , high-qualityproduction and processing (drying, distillation, macerations, etc.) on a family or artisanal scale. In addition to the great diversity of practices, productions and terroirs, a common feature of the Simples group is the marketing of short circuits, the welcoming of visitors to the farm and the transmission of traditional knowledge and know-how relating to medicinal plants .The Simples syndicate places great emphasis on ongoing training for its members, legal monitoring and collaboration with institutions and the authorities to gain recognition for the status of herbalist farmers. Thierry Thevenin and Audray Benavent are spokespersons for Simples.

Association Simple Limousin

The Simple Limousin association brings together producers and gatherers of aromatic and medicinal plants in the Limousin region, members of the SIMPLES union and certified by the SIMPLES label. Every year, the association organizes the Eté des simples, a regional plant festival.
