This ashlar viaduct is one of four structures on the former Guéret (Creuse) -La Châtre (Indre) railroad line, some 70 kilometers long. The viaduct, comprising 16 arches with a 10-metre opening, was built in three phases between 1902 and 1904, using materials mostly sourced from nearby quarries. The Guéret-La Châtre line was opened in 1906. Passenger traffic ceased in 1939, freight traffic in 1952, and the line was dismantled in 1974.
