From the 18th century onwards, this 16th-century building belonged to a family of weavers, the Corneille family. It housed a shop on the first floor, apartments and a tapestry workshop (the Corneille workshop wove many tapestries under its roof, including the life of Joan of Arc). The house is completed by a corbelled turret with a conical roof covered in chestnut shingles. This wooden tile is frequently used in the Limousin region, as chestnut is reputed to be rot-proof and spider-hating.
The main facade is divided into two parts. The larger one has two storeys with large, evenly-spaced openings, while the smaller one has three smaller windows stacked above the first floor.
