Jean Claude Courtaud, born in Felletin on November 19, 1794, died in Paris on February 11, 1879, professor of Greek grammar and author of a French/Greek dictionary.

The bust visible today is an exact copy of the original, as attested by the Thiebaut foundry mark visible on the stone.
