Notre Dame du Bâtiment
Historic site and monument, Statue
in Gentioux-Pigerolles
-
At the beginning of this century, when emigration had long been seasonal and had become permanent, a huge statue was erected on the summit of Condreau (874 m), dedicated to the emigrants.
The statue rises to a height of 7.50 m, and bears on its pedestal the tools used by construction workers. It was carved in Volvic stone by Monsieur Le Boeuf and inaugurated in 1901. Sixteen oxen were needed to raise it to the top.
