The Temple forest has been inhabited since ancient times. The arrival of the Knights Templar, those soldier monks, provided us with the first written historical document. In the cartulary of Aubespierre Abbey, we find the phrase: "Domus Fratum de Templo la Forêt (1185)". The Knights Templar, established in 1185, had built their commandery and a chapel here.
La Forêt du Temple enjoyed a period of prosperity at the time of its foundation. It was less so later, however, when in 1836 it was...The Temple forest has been inhabited since ancient times. La Forêt du Temple enjoyed a period of prosperity at the time of its foundation. It was less so later, however, when in 1836 it was removed from the map of communes and annexed to the commune of Mortroux. It wasn't until 1883, thanks to the efforts of dedicated schoolteacher François Ravaud, that La Forêt du Temple regained its administrative identity.
