Cabanes de Bergers

Other type of nature site in Saint-Goussaud
  • Known as chabannes or bories, these shelters were used by local shepherds when these hills were grazed moorland. Man had to learn how to build his dry-stone hut, covering it either with branches laden with leaves, moss and clumps of grass, or continuing the stacking with flat stones to finish with a vault. Some thirty bories have now been identified, and efforts are underway to protect them.
