Between mountain and river

A nice family time!

The gripping cold barely warmed by a generous winter sun still invites walks. Why not try, as a digestive Sunday stroll, a path just created in Saint Martial le Mont? From mountain to valley, the little circuit is really worth the walk.

After parking the car in the square in front of the church, we took time to embrace the view from the building. Waow, what a landscape! In the valley, the river shakes its silver reflections all the way down while above, on the other side, the church of Saint Médard seems to be keeping watch!

The church of Saint Martial le Mont must have known and seen some adventures! Fortified, it was protective of the village’s inhabitants. In front of the door, a Roman column shelters under a huge lime tree, a peaceful symbol. Inside, an ancient 18th century altar front made ofCordoba leather now framed, represents the first bishop of Limoges. He gave his name to the place, Saint Martial.

It is time to go down thepath that has just been laid out by the municipality. More pleasant than the road, it is also the shortest way between the church and the river. Little by little, the water is heard… the bridge, the stones in the Creuse, the vegetation typical of wetlands, give a crazy charm to the banks of the river.

What a beautiful place for some photos: the church at the very top, some small drops of water caught in the vegetation, the rays of the sun at the zenith. Let’s take advantage of this moment and the picnic tables set up for a little comforting snack. The Thermos bottle warms us up with its herbal tea that goes wonderfully with a small piece of Creusois.

Before the sun declines, it’s time to get back up. The stomach full, the effort is bearable. It was a very nice walk, short and quite pleasant by the mix between built heritage, landscapes and nature.

We keep this destination for a summer day with the family: crayfish fishing, picnic lunch and nap by the water!”
