West Creuse cycle route

Itinerary description

This 83 km cycle route takes you on the mythical roads of Saint Jacques de Compostelle between Crozant and Saint Martin Sainte Catherine.

From valley to valley, stop in the villages of character and, like a pilgrim discover the small chapels that line the route. The cycle route starts in the “Monts et Vallées Ouest Creuse” by Crozant, revealing the ruins of a medieval fortress at the confluence of the Creuse and the Sédelle, then passing through St Germain Beaupré it goes on to La Souterraine, a medieval town where the St Jacques shells mark out your route towards the Porte St Jean and the Church Notre Dame. The rest of the route follows the Gartempe Valley and leads you to the Grand Bourg and then to Bénévent-l’Abbaye where you can admire the Abbey built in the 12th century. Finally the route rushes into the Thaurion Valley and crosses authentic small towns rich in vernacular heritage.
