The legendary secret of the origin of the thermal springs of Evaux les Bains

Everything begins in the vicinity of Toulx-Sainte-Croix on the Mount Barlot where many springs were gushing out. Refuge and paradise of the fairies, the latter had all the leisure to bathe in the brooks and to dance incessant farandoles. The queen of the fairies imposed only one rule: they all had to leave Mount Barlot before sunset. Despite several warnings, the young creatures disobeyed her! In her anger, the queen chased them away and armed with a hammer she struck the ground.

The shock was terrible, we can still see the traces of it today: the streams made way for a stone shrine called “Les Pierres Jaumâtres“.

Finally to be sure to dry up the springs, the fairy threw her hammer and uttered these words “Where this hammer falls, springs of hot water will gush forth”. It landed in Evaux-les-Bains where we still enjoy the benefits of this water during thermal cures or to relax at the Evahona spa.
