A day around Lake Vassivière

Since we can go outside at will, the weather plays tricks on us, swapping the beautiful sunny days of confinement for refreshing sleet. No matter, our landscapes are all the greener and more flowery. The vegetation is lush, worthy of the Amazon rainforest! A hooded jacket, a good pair of walking shoes and hop, we are ready to face the elements!

A hike like no other

Start the day under the best auspices by walking near the Lac de Vassivière. To change from the classic hikes we suggest an unusual companion who will be a precious ally in this excursion.

In fact, we suggest you to be accompanied by a donkey. They are Olivier and Christophe, managers of the “Anes de Vassivière” who are at the origin of the concept and who welcome you warmly. They offer three types of walks, ranging from 2km to 9 km. This hike in good company will allow you to discover the Vallée de la Maulde and the small heritage of the surrounding villages.

Getting your fill at L’Atelier

This very nice little stroll will surely have worked up an appetite. L’Atelier, located in Royère-de-Vassivière, will know how to satiate you as it should, with quality products and seasonal cuisine.

Enjoy your plate on the square of Royère and don’t hesitate to take a tour of the store to discover the skills of local artisans and many fair trade products.

Take to the water…

To continue the day, try your hand at canoing on the Broussas Peninsula, an ideal activity to digest in peace while touring the lake. Take advantage of this boat to discover the surroundings and admire the landscape. Sail among the catamarans, paddle and Kitesurf.

Don’t be afraid to go around thesnake island even if its name is confusing, there is nothing more to fear from this islet… or almost.

… and end the day gently!

When you leave your boats you can let yourself be guided by the greedy smell of pancakes and waffles, prepared at the Cabane de la plage, a place not to be missed at Lake Vassivière. If it’s very hot don’t panic, the hut also offers ice creams and cold drinks.

Don’t hesitate to enjoy your snack on the beach of Broussas and let yourself go to laze in the sun and take a fresh water bath.

A little tourist train runs between the Station buffet and the Ile de Vassivière. It is present every day in July/August 11.15am – 12.30am and 1.30pm – 7pm.
Fees: 1.5€/adult, 1€/child 6-18 years old and free for -6 years old the trip
In addition taxi boats are set up to go from one point of the lake to another. Regular connections every day between July 4 and August 30 from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 am. and 1.30 pm. to 7pm.
