A day around Crozant

Set out to discover the commune of Crozant, but also more broadly the pretty Vallée des Peintres. The granite chaos, the wilderness, the man-made landscape not to mention the ambient charm have inspired many poets and painters.

An inspiring walk

Start by walking the Painters’ Trail, to soak up the peaceful and magical atmosphere of this place. You will be able to observe the magnificent landscape, characterized by the predominance of rock, worked by man. You will walk along pretty waterfalls that give this place a bucolic atmosphere. Follow the trail and the history of the painters who have trodden this mythical place, walk through the sumptuous valley of the Sedelle and discover the secrets of this territory with the help of explanatory panels. At the end of the tour, you’ll be rewarded witha breathtaking view of the iconic Fortress of Crozant.

A trip back in time

After this charming stroll, we suggest visiting the Hôtel Lépinatto discover more about the history of the Impressionist painters. Step back in time and relive the history of the Hotel Lépinat, a former 19th century inn. The interpretation center offers a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions are organized to complete the discovery.

Lunch Break: the King’s Choice

After this busy morning, we suggest going to lunch near the Fortress of Crozant. For those who wish to linger a bit to enjoy the scenery, we recommend the Auberge de la Vallée, which makes fine dishes with seasonal flavors. For those who prefer speed and local cuisine, we suggest the Hôtel du Lac, at the foot of which also has paddle and canoe departures.

Immediate boarding

When you’re full, you can enjoy aboat ride to admire the scenery and navigate the Creuse River. Take advantage of this boat to observe the ruins of Crozant, catch a glimpse of the rocher des fileuses or the moulin de Pillemongin, must-see sites of this ride on the water. Let yourself be poetic and soak up this unique place full of history…

A little sport?

After docking, we leave you the choice between two activities (or both for the more adventurous) to end this day around Crozant. Sportsmen can test their balance by trying paddleboardingor canoeing, ideal activities to enjoy the surrounding nature. Stand up on your board for as long as possible or sit tight in your canoe and cruise the river to admire all its treasures.

Are you more of a culture person?

For art and history buffs, and for the more curious, we suggest you extend the discovery of the painters’ history through a visit to the Espace Monet-Rollinat, in Fresselines. In addition to the remarkable and famous works of artists Claude Monet and Maurice Rollinat, you can learn more about the work of contemporary artists. Hosting numerous exhibitions the Monet Rollinat space is a place to showcase culture, where you will be amazed by the work of artists past and present.
